On Tuesday 25th September, we hosted our Year 7 Coffee and Curriculum Information Evening for parents. Our three core subjects, English, Mathematics and Science were the key focus areas for the event. Our Heads of Department, Mr. Alan Grant (Mathematics), Ms. Sara Brazier (English) and Mr. Oliver Lewis (Science) gave short talks on their area’s Key Stage 3 curriculum. The sessions provided information on curriculum content, home learning, assessment, monitoring and support, as well as stretching and extending our more able students in each subject.
The aim of the evening was to share with parents the core skill set needed for success within the subject. It was delivered to over 50 parents who were provided with a variety of resources that could be taken home and used to further develop their child’s attainment. We truly believe that the partnership of parent, teacher and child is crucial for progress and success. For those of you that were able to attend, you will recall the Irish quote I used, ‘Le chéile is fearr sinn’ simply translated to ‘together we are better’. I look forward to working with parents, alongside the teaching staff to make your child’s experience at BIS Abu Dhabi the best it can be.
