BIS Abu Dhabi are working with Cranleigh, who are partnering with schools across Abu Dhabi and The Ministry of Tolerance on an exciting opera project to be presented in partnership with The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi later this year.
Last weekend 80 students started work with a team of world class creative professionals from the UK to devise an original piece of operatic theatre in celebration of the Year of Zayed. Themed "Water in the Desert: A Zayed Legacy" it will be based on the late Sheikh Zayed’s foresight into the importance of environmental conservation and his vision for a greening of the desert.
Students had to audition to gain a place in the company. Successful students from The British International School Abu Dhabi were Mia Seesink (8C), Constance Gois (6C), Naiya Watts (6C) and Sarah Harkat (6B). After 4 days of devising and creating, the students returned to school full of excitement and enthusiasm. Sarah was overwhelmed that she had met and worked with Nader Musharbash, a choreographer who has created movement material for Beyonce, Pink and worked with TV productions; X Factor, Brit Awards and MTV Awards. Constance liked the experience of meeting new friends and learning new dance moves.
Students will return to the second part of the project in October, and we look forward to seeing their adventure develop.
