U9A Netball Success

The U9A netballers continued their excellent league form into the ADISSA end of season netball tournament on Sunday. The girls finished second in the league overall, drawing with eventual winners Brighton College along the way. The girls came into the tournament with high expectations but also knew that other schools would be coming thinking the same.

In Pool A we drew Yasmina, BSAK and GEMS with the first game being against Yasmina. The girls started extremely well and thanks to excellent shooting from Devishi and Isobelle took a commanding lead at half time. This continued in the second half and we were rewarded with a 11-1 win.

The second game proved to be a thriller against BSAK. The game was head to head throughout but an outstanding performance from captain Gabi Morrell as well as excellent defending from Hana Hegazy in the second half gave BIS Abu Dhabi the win with a 5-3 scoreline.

The third and final group game was against GEMS academy. The girls knew what to expect from our previous league encounter – a tough game! That’s exactly what it proved to be with the girls in blue eventually coming away with a 3 goal win.

Sheer relief followed as we realised we had made it to the semifinals. Awaiting us in the Semis were RAHA – the tournament hosts. A cracking game followed with great support from the home crowd as well as the many BIS Abu Dhabi parent supporters. The game was drawn with three minutes to go but sheer determination shown in the final minutes gave BIS Abu Dhabi the win and a final spot!

The opponents in the final were Brighton College – a team we had drawn with in the league a few weeks previous. Another breath taking game with the lead going back and forth between the two teams throughout the game. It came down to the final few minutes when Brighton broke our center pass, scoring a vital goal to give them a two goal winning margin.

Huge thanks for all of you as parents for your constant support – It has provided the girls with a great boost on match days.

The girls have improved so much throughout the season and should be very proud of their performance in both the league as well as the tournament. Exciting times ahead for netball at BIS Abu Dhabi!
