This year, we will continue to share staff profiles to get to know members of our school family a little better. Each week we will feature a member of staff across all areas of the school including teachers, admin staff, support staff and more.
Our profile this week is Rebecca, our receptionist. Below Rebecca gives us a snapshot into her background and how she came to work at BIS:
After many (many) years of working as a paediatric nurse in Australia, including in remote, outback areas, an opportunity arose for my family to live in Bangkok. For nearly three years, we ate amazing food, experienced fascinating culture, horrendous traffic and had opportunities to explore many incredible parts of Asia.
In 2016, we arrived in Abu Dhabi ready to explore a new part of the world. We were so fortunate to have our 2 children start at BIS Abu Dhabi and it wasn’t too long that we settled into Abu Dhabi life. I loved the school so much that I applied to work here! I spent a year as an SSA in Year 3 before being fortunate enough to start work in reception alongside Jay-Ann.
I love working on reception at BIS Abu Dhabi as I get a chance to meet so many of our lovely families, students and our amazing staff. I particularly enjoy watching new students arrive on their first day, nervous and unsure and then see them not long after, smiling and happily settled into school life.
Some of my favourite things to do in Abu Dhabi are camping in the desert, shopping in the malls and trying local food – especially chicken shawarma. I love the fact that Abu Dhabi is only a short flight to some many wonderful places in the world as compared to the very long flights from Australia. Outside of work I also enjoy driving my children from one end of Abu Dhabi to the other, trying new restaurants with my husband, playing netball in the social league, sewing and travelling to new places.
Please make sure you say hello next time you call past reception - I would love to meet you!
