Staff Profile: Nurse Jasmin

As our school community grows we will be sharing staff profiles to get to know members of our school family a little better. Each week we will feature a member of staff across all areas of the school including teachers, admin staff, support staff and more.

Our profile this week is Nurse Jasmin, one of our caring nurses in the school clinic. Below Jasmin gives us a snapshot into her background and how she came to work at BIS:

To be a part of BIS Abu Dhabi is such a great blessing and I am grateful that I was given a chance to work here. I am able to work with people from different countries, cultures and accents that make me appreciate the beauty of our individualities.

Before I landed this dream job, I would like to give everyone a glimpse of my simple life as a registered nurse in the Philippines. I am a typical nurse who works hard to support my family. I am the eldest daughter and became an instant “mum” to my younger siblings when my mum passed away due to an illness that we never knew she had. Life at this moment was very difficult but life must go on and I should be strong for my siblingss.

After a few years of taking care of them, I decided to work in Kuwait as a nurse and my life changed drastically due to different culture and practices. I was assigned to work with children with special needs and learned how beautiful and intelligent these children are in their own way and time. To be honest, it was a challenging job but definitely a fulfilling one and that is to see them improve individually and reach different milestones slowly but surely.

With the above experience, I become more compassionate with children and I already knew what sort job I wanted when I transferred here to the UAE a year and a half ago. Working as a school nurse is different but exciting especially when I am with the dream team Nurse Cherry and Nurse Dominic.

I’d like to express a heartfelt gratitude to the management once again for this huge opportunity given to me. I will do my best to be of service to everyone and become a blessing in return. Now that I am quite into my job in Abu Dhabi, I will soon start my own family as I just got recently engaged.
