This year, we will continue to share staff profiles to get to know members of our school family a little better. Each week we will feature a member of staff across all areas of the school including teachers, admin staff, support staff and more.
Our profile this week is Joeurdan Madriaga, Security Officer. Below Joeurdan gives us a snapshot into his background and how he came to work at BIS:
I arrived in this desert country on the 13thDecember 2014, leaving behind my wife, my son and my job as a Security Officer in the Shangri-La Hotel in Manila. The living conditions back in the Philippines are difficult but I found consolation in seeing my wife and son after every work day.
I wanted the best for my wife and son, so three years after my son’s birth, I decided to try my luck as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW). Luckily, I was hired and started my first job overseas here in the UAE in the last quarter of 2014. I have remained steadfast with my goal of giving my family a better future even though life here in the UAE can be difficult, not only due to the hot weather, but also in conversing with a lot of different nationalities.
When I started working at BIS Abu Dhabi, I found a second home. I have completed four good years of service with the school, ensuring the safety and security of all students, staff, parents and visitors and I always give a helping hand to everybody in any way that I can.
I would like to thank BIS Abu Dhabi for giving me this opportunity to serve and I would like to thank you all for the pleasant memories and experiences during my service to the school.
