This year, we will continue to share staff profiles to get to know members of our school family a little better. Each week we will feature a member of staff across all areas of the school including teachers, admin staff, support staff and more.
Our profile this week is Fayaz Malik, Digital Integrator in our IT team. Below Fayaz gives us a snapshot into his background:
There is a great saying, ‘On the eighth day, God created Manchester.’ Another great saying is, ‘66 was a great year for England.’ This also happens to be the year I was born... Fortunately, on the red side of town!
My educational journey began in my home city and has never stopped. Each day I learn something new. I have worked in a variety of roles including retail management, auto mechanics and as an advanced driving instructor/examiner to name but a few. For the past twenty years, I have worked in a wide variety of schools teaching Information Technology to students and providing professional development opportunities for teachers and support staff.
In addition, I was the international school co-ordinator for my previous two schools. In this capacity, I organised many student exchange programmes and residential visits to Nanjing in China. Having caught the travel bug, I have since ventured across the United States, Europe and South East Asia.
As a Mancunian, I obviously have great taste in music (Happy Mondays), a cultured palate (the famous curry mile), and a great sense of humour (always the comedian). However, my greatest passion must be Manchester United... But don’t tell my wife!
Apart from football, I also enjoy playing cricket. I have been fortunate enough to have managed the Manchester Schools' Champions for five consecutive years. As representatives of Lancashire C.C.C, myself and my team were invited to Lord's, which was a great honour, especially for Graham Gooch the England captain as he got to shake my hand! My dream is to watch England play Australia at the MCG on a sunny Boxing day.
I am blessed to have four wonderful children, the youngest has just completed her GCSEs and is off to college.
What seems like only yesterday but is five years ago, my wife and I moved to another amazing place, Abu Dhabi. I started a new adventure at BIS as a member of the IT team. I really enjoy my role as it allows me to work across the whole school and do what I do best, support and interact with staff and students in a positive, friendly manner.
I firmly believe that humour is the key to a happy workplace and in a happy workplace, work is not a chore but a pleasure. If a moment of my time is taken making another person smile, it is a moment well spent.
My wife and I love living in Abu Dhabi with our four young ones – Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ron (our goldfish). It is an absolute pleasure to be part of BIS Abu Dhabi and to work alongside highly dedicated people.
Finally, if I could sum up my philosophy for life in a quote, it would be along the lines of the great Sir Matt Busby, ‘At Manchester United we strive for perfection and if we fail, we might just have to settle for excellence.’
