Staff Profile: Emmeline, Year 2 Teacher

This year, we will continue to share staff profiles to get to know members of our school family a little better. Each week we will feature a member of staff across all areas of the school including teachers, admin staff, support staff and more.

Our profile this week is Emmeline, a Year 2 teacher. Below Emmeline gives us a snapshot into her background and how she came to work at BIS:

‘The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.’

As someone who could never read just 1 page of a book, this quote sent me on a journey to ‘read’ as much as the world as I possibly could. I left England with these words ringing in my ears, determined to experience everything I possibly could and fill up my previously empty passport with adventures.

6 years later, I have moved from Qatar to Dubai to Abu Dhabi, and can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. My apartment is now full of pictures and souvenirs of the 30 countries I’ve managed to visit along the way – I’ve touched the tops of mountains and swum to the bottom of the sea, walked alongside elephants, ziplined across jungles and visited some of the wonders of the world. All this and my travel bucket list is just getting longer!

As well as enjoying all these adventures in different corners of the world, I have loved being able to make my home here in the UAE and experience a whole new culture and way of life.

I have been lucky enough to be teaching at BIS Abu Dhabi now for almost 18 months; I love the new challenge that each day brings and how I have grown as a teacher. I have never been to a school with such a strong feeling of community and the children here are some of the most enthusiastic and kind that I have ever worked with. I especially love to see the children come together from across the school – I think I might get more excited than they do when House Day comes around each year!

There are already so many fantastic memories from the short time I have been here and I look forward to seeing what the next few years will bring!
