As our school community grows we will be sharing staff profiles to get to know members of our school family a little better. Each week we will feature a member of staff across all areas of the school including teachers, admin staff, support staff and more.
Our profile this week is Angela Barnes, Year 2 Deputy Year Leader. Below Angela gives us a snapshot into her background and how she came to work at BIS:
I come from a lovely part of England, Cumbria where most of my days were spent exploring the mountains and lakes with my husband, our two boys and our pet dog Allie. We loved the green hills and beautiful landscape, and my husband loved to perfect his fly-fishing skills. To many this would be idyllic, but we knew we were lacking the sunshine and getting fed up with day after day of rain.
I was working in a small primary school in another town close to my hometown of Cockermouth. This was my first job after graduating from St Martin’s College in Lancaster and I grew as a teacher there, working for 12 years! I took on many new roles to keep me interested but became increasingly aware that I was missing something and lacking a challenge. When I heard about a friend from university moving to the UAE, I thought this could be my chance to find a new purpose in life.
We moved to Abu Dhabi in 2014 and since moving I have expanded my family by having a baby girl who now completes us.
Working at BIS Abu Dhabi and living in the UAE has been an extremely positive experience. The people we have met and the friends we have made have been a blessing and we are proud that we have given our children these wonderful experiences to help them grow into global citizens and the opportunity to experience a wonderfully diverse community that Abu Dhabi has to offer. I can see us having a long future here and being so central means we can travel the world in our spare time. What’s not to love?
