Principal's Update: A New Year

It is always so exciting to welcome back the students for a new school year. This applies to returning students and also to the new joiners who started at BIS Abu Dhabi this week. We are all looking forward to every one of them achieving tremendous success in the year ahead.

To start off this year I am very pleased to acknowledge some of the successes of last year. The long summer holiday is the time when our senior students receive their IB and IGCSE results. I am very pleased to say that these are record results for the school and a true testament to the work of these students and their teachers. Our Head of Secondary, Mr Irving, has written in more detail about the results in his newsletter article.

Although the teachers have enjoyed a well-deserved break, many of our other staff continued working throughout the summer to ensure the school was fully prepared for the school year. My thanks to all of them for their contribution throughout these hottest months!

There are a few changes to the buildings to look out for:

  • An expanded main reception area
  • Updated playgrounds for both FS1 and FS2
  • New flooring for the corridors
  • Increased digital smartboards for the Primary classes
  • A new Primary Music Suite
  • And something you won’t see…. further upgrades to our IT networks

In addition to the Secondary floor and the new Sports Academy which opened last year, these changes ensure the school is well set with superb facilities to provide great opportunities for all students to help them do their very best.

There is one other significant change outside the school buildings. We have moved the parking area for the buses to outside the Sports Academy. This provides a safe entrance away from traffic for all our students who take the bus, plus it provides many more car-parking spaces outside the Primary entrance for parents who drive to school. I hope this helps keep all our children safe and provides more space for all drivers.

I mentioned at the start the new students who started this week. We also need to remember all the new parents who start this week and our new members of staff who have joined the team too. I am sure everyone in our community will, as ever, do everything to help all new members of our BIS Abu Dhabi family to settle in and enjoy life in school and in Abu Dhabi.
