Welcome back to what promises to be an exciting, busy and full Term 2. I hope that your Winter break was invigorating, recharging and enjoyable.
As Mr Horne communicated last week, our community suffered a tragic event in our loss of Ahmed Obaid, a student in Year 10, in a car accident. In remembrance of Ahmed, we held a Secondary School assembly on Sunday which was attended by his mother, sister and younger brother Eissa where a fitting tribute to Ahmed was delivered. His friends and staff are putting together some thoughts and further tributes which we shall share with you in the next few days.
We are fortunate in schools to have a number of fresh starts available to us; calendar, religious and academic new years to name but a few. These can be times of reflection and setting ourselves new challenges to help improve our own prospects, and those of others who are oftentimes less fortunate than ourselves. The spirit of service and community is so strong in BIS Abu Dhabi; it is one of our many strengths and was encapsulated in our Service trip to Tanzania at the end of Term 1. I am sure that more news about this trip is to come in the coming weeks.
May I end by wishing all of our students, staff and families a very Happy, Prosperous and Learning-filled New Year.
