Last week, BIS Abu Dhabi Team Falcon attended the BSME U13 Large Schools Games in Muscat, hosted by the British School Muscat, looking to build on the successes of the U15 BSME squad.
The games gave our squad the opportunity to show their ability over three days of competition in volleyball, netball, football and athletics.
During day one, the girls participated in football and the boys in volleyball. Some outstanding individual and team performances accompanied by a desire to achieve gave the squad a solid start to the competition. The girls finished in 9th place and the boys in 6th.
Day two was a day in the Oman national stadium participating in athletics. This incredible facility inspired our athletes to perform to their best. A large number of top five finishes and a number of medals won by our athletes moved our squad up to 7th place. Alexis Lequeux won the boys high jump and finished with a silver in the javelin, Louis Givens finished with a silver in the high jump and Tamsin Sangster finished with a silver in the long jump.
Day three meant a day of football for the boys and netball for the girls. Already exhausted from the pervious day's competition, the squad found an extra gear and gave performance after performance. Both teams finishing 5th was a huge achievement.
The squad finished 7th overall, which is the school's highest BSME U13 games finish!
On behalf of the department, I would like to thank every single athlete that participated in these games. We saw the effort in your faces, we saw the extra mile that you went every day, we saw you battle for your team and your school. You can all be proud with what every single one of you has achieved. Well done.
Sport allows for challenge and tests character and resilience, this is what we can not train but we can develop through experience.
I would also like to thank the parents that supported the squad throughout these games. You are always part of the team.
