Last week 17 students from BIS Abu Dhabi travelled to New York University to participate in the BSME Netball Tournament, hosted by Brighton College. The competition was held over the weekend with most of the games being played on Friday, then the play-offs and presentations taking place on Saturday.
BIS Abu Dhabi entered one U13 and one U15 team including students from Year 6 to Year 10. They played against teams from all over the Middle East including: Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Dubai, Kuwait and Oman. The competition was a round-robin format, with all teams playing each other in the preliminary stages and then the top teams competing in the play-offs.
Our U13 team played exceptionally well on Friday and went through to the semi-final against The British School, Muscat on Saturday morning. The semi-final was a nail-biting game, only missing out on the final by one goal. We finished 3rd overall and Emily, Year 8, was awarded Players' Player of the Tournament with Claudia, Year 7, picking up the Coaches' Player of the Tournament accolade.
Our U15 team also played excellent netball on Friday, narrowly missing out on a semi-final spot. They played their play-off game on Saturday against Brighton College and finished 5th overall. Janet, Year 9, was named player of the tournament.
As always, there was excellent support from all BIS Abu Dhabi parents which was appreciated by both the players and staff.
