BIS Abu Dhabi is very excited about the forthcoming BOOK WEEK taking place at school between 25th february – 1st March. We have some great events planned for the whole school to join in and celebrate their love of books:
Drop everything and Read!
During the week students will need to have a reading book with them at all times as we will be continuing with our annual ‘Drop everything and READ’ initiative. At any given time of the day a bell will ring, and students will have to stop what they are doing and read their book! Please support us by ensuring your child has a reading book with them every day.
All students will be given the opportunity to visit the Book Fair. There will be a wide range of books including: Fiction, Non-Fiction and Revision books. Students will be visiting the stall during one of their English lessons. There is no pressure to make a purchase, but students are welcome to do so if they wish.
The fair will be open exclusively to parents and teachers on Sunday. Please feel free to pop along, have a coffee and peruse the books on offer. The fair will be set up in Forum 2 on the second floor from 8am onwards.
THE MONKEY POET
On Wednesday students will have a special assembly from a published poet, Matthew Panesh – they will have the opportunity to discuss poetry, write their own poetry and ask questions.
WORLD BOOK DAY – DRESS UP
On Thursday, students are invited to dress up as their favourite character and this year we are asking for a specific focus on Shakespearean characters! World Book Day is every English teacher’s favourite day and we look forward to celebrating with our students!
Our year 6 and secondary students will deliver performances on Thursday to their peers on the works of Shakespeare as a culmination of their English & Drama classes.
MACBETH THE MUSICAL
There are 77 students who will be travelling to Dubai on Friday to watch a production of Macbeth the Musical. If your child is involved in the trip please meet outside school on Friday. The buses will leave at 9.30am and return to school at 4pm. Students are allowed to wear their own clothes and should bring some money to buy lunch whilst at Mall of the Emirates.
