Last week in Year 5 we went out in our classes to the football field. First, we went to make a tent out of straight sticks, bungee rope, short blanket and heavy bricks. Some groups succeeded whilst solving problems with their friends and while most groups tried their best. We also made some yummy s’mores. We used plain biscuits, soft marshmallows and milk chocolate and left them in the heat to gel together – it was a science experiment where we thought about the conduction of heat.
We made a manmade tent without instructions. Most of the groups got it right. We thought that the most challenging activity was making our own tent using only a few materials. We think that the easiest was making the s’mores which were very delicious. We believe that all of Year 5 showed great teamwork and creativity in all the activities. There was a lot of problems that just needed some logic and thought to solve. We did all this as part of our topic 'Swallows and Amazons' based on having adventures. It helped us a lot because we learnt a few important life skills that would help us survive on an island. We will now use this experience to help write our own adventure stories.
