The Accelerated Beginners Course is designed for students who join the British International School with little exposure to the English language and are unable to independently participate in the school’s curriculum. The program aims to accelerate children’s ability to use English both orally and written as quickly as possible, so they can learn alongside their peers.
It is an interactive 10 week course delivered by qualified language teachers during the school day. It is run on a termly basis and includes key grammar and vocabulary, phonics and a writing focus. The course follows a curriculum that uses Cambridge University Press publications as well as other well-recognised specifically designed teaching resources. It runs in conjunction with one-to-one support in the classroom as well as small group classes.
- To deliver an effective ESL program which is differentiated and individualised in a supportive and caring environment.
- To meet the needs of non-English-speaking students, by setting learning goals based on their age and stage of language acquisition.
- To ensure that each student’s English language learning journey is positive to successfully integrate into them into the mainstream classroom as quickly as possible.
