EAL at BIS Abu Dhabi

  • We have families from 80 different nationalities
  • We offer support to students and their families across Primary and Secondary

Who we are and what we do:

  • Rebecca Dickinson – Head of EAL and KS2 support
  • Karen Bough and Judith Edwards – KS1 support
  • Shelagh Deegan – KS3 support
  • Rebecca Carswell – GSCE and IB support

We are very happy to announce that we are extending our EAL provision…

In Primary, students in Years 1 – 6 will be offered the opportunity to complete English courses published by CENGAGE and National Geographic, for all levels of English learners. Students will be identified for support by their class teacher and will receive English support in small groups.

In Secondary, students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will be offered the opportunity to complete Cambridge courses and examinations to formalise their English skills. This will provide students with a standard level of English that can be transferred and recognised internationally in schools and universities, using the CFER.

For students in Year 10 and 11, we are delivering an EdExcel IGCSE EAL course for our students for whom English is not their first language. The course will prepare students to be tested on their English Language ability through practical and realistic tasks using authentic texts.  Consisting of two separate exam papers that will test students’ reading, writing and listening skills. We have had a very enthusiastic start and students are very keen to succeed in this award.

IB students will be offered a range of support depending on their areas of need.

We also offer small group support and 1:1 support in the classroom.

If you have any questions please contact Rebecca Dickinson.

Please keep checking for more information as we will soon be inviting parents into school to meet the team and share more information.
