Update

Firstly, many thanks to so many parents who have been in touch with me during the last few months and enquiring as to progress. I am very pleased to be able to inform everyone that a suitable donor has been found and a kidney transplant operation has been scheduled for next month. Furthermore, as a date has now been set, I am able to return to Abu Dhabi for a short time. I will be back in school next Sunday and for the following two weeks.

I am immensely grateful to all the staff and parents who continue to work so hard and support each other on behalf of the students. Although it is great to read about the countless activities and successes going on in school, I am certainly missing being part of it all! I am very much looking forward to returning and seeing everyone next week.

Moving on, there are a couple of brief announcements regarding school timings. Firstly, can I please draw everyone’s attention to the Ramadan Hours which are published separately (click here to view post). These are the same timings as last year and fall within the expectations set by the Abu Dhabi Education Council.

I expect many of you will have noticed a recent article in The National newspaper regarding an amendment to the dates originally advised by the Ministry of Education for the next school year. All schools are now being asked to finish the final term on Thursday July 5th 2018 which means there will be an extra week added on to the school year. We will of course be following this guidance and a new school calendar can be viewed by clicking here. Please note the only changes are in 2018 and the start dates for September 2017 remain unaltered.

Finally, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to our wonderful PTA and so many other members of our parent community who have helped contribute to a Staff Appreciation event this week. Events such as this do not take place in every school and are a true measure of what a special community BIS Abu Dhabi is: passionate, committed staff and a highly supportive and collaborative parent body. On behalf of all the staff can I thank all those parents involved for helping to bring an added smile to our faces and an extra lift to our steps for these final few weeks of term.
