More Falcon Success in the Swimming Pool

As you may be aware, Mrs Naylor, Mrs Hook, Mrs Scott-Mackie, Ms Crawley, Mrs Watson and Mr Depose have been working quietly but purposefully with a group of dedicated students to improve our swimming programme. As a result of their dedication our students are really beginning to make waves!

This week BIS Abu Dhabi hosted our first ADISSA Secondary Swimming Gala, featuring our Team Falcon, Brighton College, Yasmina, BSAK, Gems American Academy and Al Raha. An enthralling event saw an amazing battle between the top four schools. The final standing saw Team Falcon eventually finish just off the trophies in 4th position but by a very small margin. A massive improvement and a performance that shows great promise for the future.

Thanks and congratulations to our fantastic swimmers and to their dedicated coaches. The Falcons are flying in the pool….let’s see who will follow their lead.

Hitting the ground flying!

We are fortunate to have some great all-round athletes at our school already, but I would like to take a moment to recognise the immediate impact of two new-comers to our school.

Hamad Alnuaimi, who arrived at the beginning of the school year, is a quiet and unassuming young man off the field of play, but he displays a steely commitment and purpose in his approach when he enters the sporting arena. Hamad’s dedication makes him a great role model to his peers (he hasn’t missed a rugby training session all year), and led to an outstanding man-of-the-match performance in last week’s U14 rugby game against Al Raha.

Ines Charvet has only been with us since the beginning of this term. Already she is lighting up the pool with some outstanding performances. Her freestyle in particular is poetry in motion, leaving her opponents in her wake. She made a great contribution to Team Falcon at this week’s ADISSA Gala….and I hear that she’s also a pretty handy track and field athlete.

Thank you Ines and Hamad, for making such a great contribution in such a short time and providing inspiration for all of us involved in the sports programme at BIS Abu Dhabi!
