New ADEK ruling on Year 13 and Equivalency

Dear Parents,

We are writing to inform you of a change in the expectations for students to achieve equivalency in the UAE when they leave school.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has recently introduced new guidelines for students that state that all students must stay on in full-time education until Year 13 to ensure equivalency. The full statement from ADEK is as follows:

“Following discussions and guidance provided to ADEK we would like to inform you that Year 13 is mandatory from the next academic year to obtain an equivalency certificate from the Ministry of Education. All students studying in the British Curriculum schools that follow the year system will be required to complete Year 13 to meet the minimum school graduation requirements of the Ministry of Education.”

Please feel free to contact the school directly if you would like further clarification.

Yours sincerely,

Patrick Horne, Principal
