Mount Kilimanjaro Trip (Year 10 - 13 students) - Information Evening

We are extremely excited to announce the upcoming international trip to climb the highest mountain on the African continent – Mount Kilimanjaro. I would like to invite parents and students that are currently studying in year 10,11,12 & 13 to an information evening concerning this amazing opportunity on:

Wednesday 27th September at 5pm in Forum 2.

Introduction
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the African continent at 5898m above sea level. It is the highest freestanding mountain in the world. Students will take part in a challenging 7-day ascent via the Machame route, which provides wonderful views of the surrounding plains and an ascent profile that will offer the greatest chance of success for our students to reach the summit of this African giant. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to be ambitious and challenge themselves through a unique and highly enjoyable expedition, designed to enable them to grow personally and emotionally. The activities support key skills such as confidence, resilience, independence and leadership, all essential in your child’s education, career and life as a global citizen. Working with fellow Nord Anglia Education students from around the world, this experience will broaden your child’s horizons by taking them away from the beaten track and opening their eyes to the world, cultures and people around them while building lifelong friendships and memories.

Costs
The total costs for the trip will be finalized when the ADEC application is submitted in November with quotes for flight.
Nord Anglia is subsidizing this trip considerably for each student attending therefore the total cost will be in the region of 7500 AED. This includes flights, insurance and visas (arranged by the school).
Medication and vaccinations are not included and parents will need to arrange this separately through your doctor.

Dates and Times
The expedition will run mostly through the Spring Break holiday from 21st March to April 1st (12 days) although the students will miss the last 2 days of the spring term.

Who is it for?
The expedition is aimed at students aged 14 and above. There are 10 places available to BIS Abu Dhabi. The students who are successful will:

  • Show a good level of endurance fitness,
  • Be willing to train prior to the trip,
  • Take part in the Global Classroom training portal,
  • Share their experiences with class mates,
  • Demonstrate mental toughness,
  • Demonstrate personal organization,
  • Have a positive attitude.

This will be an immense and hugely rewarding challenge for the students. This will provide the stories of a lifetime to those involved.

We will submit all the information to ADEC in November therefore the trip will only go ahead with approval. In the case of the trip not being approved, all payments will be reimbursed.
