Let's Talk

Mental Health

In less than a week, it will be Mental Health Week (7th-11th October) and it is World Mental Health day on 10th October 2018. At BIS Abu Dhabi, we believe mental health and emotional well-being is as important to our lives as our physical health. Mental health is a crucial factor in overall well-being and can affect children and young people in many ways, including their development, learning and their ability to achieve.

During Mental Health Week, the school will be raising mental health awareness through classroom-based activities and encouraging discussions on how we can celebrate each other’s differences through respect and kindness. Also, we will be taking time to highlight the difference between feeling “okay” and “not okay”, what that looks like and how we can support each other.

At home, continue to encourage your children to talk about how they feel in different situations; recognise their strengths, their abilities, their interests and what makes them unique. By having a positive view of ourselves, we can feel better equipped to cope with life’s challenges and make better connections with others 😊

To shine a spotlight on the importance of children and young people’s mental health, we will be asking our students, parents and all staff to wear something YELLOW to complement their clothes/uniform (week beginning 7th October 2018).
