A number of new staff are added to the BIS Abu Dhabi team each year. In our newsletter over the next few weeks we will introduce you to some of the new teachers who will be teaching your children next academic year. This week we are delighted to introduce our incoming Head of Mathematics, Mr Alan Grant.

Alan was born and educated in the bright lights of Glasgow, Scotland where he attended university and studied Pure Mathematics at Glasgow University. This is where Alan discovered teaching was his passion and decided to study for a PGDE in education specialising in mathematics. After working for a few years as a class teacher in Glasgow Alan and his wife, who is also a teacher, moved to London. This is where Alan’s career really took off, initially as a KS3 coordinator developing the curriculum and assessment systems as well as mentoring student and NQT teachers and then moved on to become an Advanced Skills Teacher working with SLT to develop whole school Professional Development and trained primary teachers in the Borough on the new Mathematics content added to the National Curriculum.

Following on from his time in the UK, Alan and his wife moved to Abu Dhabi in 2014 as the the Head of Senior Mathematics at Brighton College, taking a relatively new department from their first set of results to having great GCSE and A level results, as well as an Outstanding rating from ADEC.

Looking for a new challenge in his career, Alan was immediately enthused by the role at BIS Abu Dhabi.

“I am very much looking forward to delivering IB and the excellent CPD opportunities afforded by being part of a global schools network”.

Alan is a huge football fan, supporting Partick Thistle as much he can although much of his spare time is now taken up since his son was born!

We very much look forward to welcoming Alan and his family to the BIS Abu Dhabi community.
